“I hear him. He’s in my head.”
Tousled brown hair dropped over her pale white face, faded green eyes opened wide, staring at the woman in the white coat sitting in front of her. The girl’s legs were tucked up towards her chest, arms holding them close to her body. There were no more tears, only the pain. The throbbing in her head, her cold skin, and her heart felt like it was mangled, confused in which direction to follow. Green orbs followed the woman in the white coat’s every movement, watching, waiting. Her parents had no choice but to send her here, it was the best thing for her right now. Though she pleaded not to be taken out of her house, after a few days of her returning home from the hospital and staying in her room as well as not eating, they thought that it would be the best thing.
“He’s not in your head. He’s gone, he can’t find you here. Please try to calm down Amy.”
She was found 4 days ago, curled up in an alleyway, drugged and dirty, sweating from a high fever and murmuring his name. His name stayed in her head, in her thoughts, in her heart. Amy Reid, Age 17, had been kidnapped on July 7th and was missing for a total of 14 days before she was found in that alleyway. The police had almost given up hope after a week but then new evidence pointed towards a likely suspect and a location. Though, before they could pursue, they were mailed an anonymous letter indicating a location that the girl would be. Sure enough, when they went to go see, she was there, huddled up.
“I see him. I… I loved him.”

Dull green eyes snapped open and a young woman sat straight up in bed, looking around the room that she was sleeping in. Simple and quite small, walls painted a dark purple, a small window on the far wall covered with curtains. Sighing, Amy laid back down on her bed and put the back of her hand on her moist forehead. “It will never go away.” She murmured to herself before pushing the covers off of herself and standing up.
Amy Reid (Though now known to everyone but her family as Sierra Myers because of a precautionary name change) was now a 22 year old woman, living on her own and working for a small publishing company, for the moment. It was hard for her to keep a job, with her paranoia. Her family had moved and she changed her name for precautionary purposes after she left the mental institution. It had been 5 years since the incident but Amy could remember it like it was yesterday. It never left her, those 14 days and even the months after while she was in the mental institution still stayed in her mind. It had taken a year and a few months to finally get her to go out in public again and another year after that to get her to go out in public alone. With the help of her teachers and the principle of her high school, she was able to graduate but she never went to college. Even though her parents begged her to try, she just couldn’t. So she was now an assistant for the publishing company. She got them coffee and photocopied papers. Easy enough job to do and keep, she figured.
Walking to the bathroom, Amy ran her hang through her long dark chocolate brown tresses and looked at herself in the mirror. Though as soon as she opened her eyes to look at herself, she saw the 17 year old girl that she was and someone… Behind… Quickly, Tessa turned around, her heart beating rapidly. No one there. Placing her hand on her heart, she slowly slid herself into a sitting position on the floor. It was always a struggle in the morning when she was alone. She would get these visions often. Visions of herself when she was younger, visions of… Him. At the time, she wasn’t able to describe everything to the police but it was still real.
Amy loved him. Or at least, was led to believe that she loved him. Her captor, the man who ruined her life. She had been abducted on the way to the mall to meet up with some friends. At the time, she had complained to her parents that she was always feeling as if someone was watching her or following her. Her parents kept telling her that she was imagining it, or that the whole world didn’t revolve around her and everyone wasn’t watching her every move. Some people had called her a princess but she mostly put up that act for fun. But this time it wasn’t an act, and she truly felt scared that someone was stalking her. Her parents didn’t listen, her friends made fun of her. That is, until she was abducted and kept for 14 days. After that happened, then they believed her.
The police believed that it was someone that she had been nice to at her job. She was a waitress at a small café at the time and had encountered many people. The theory was that she had been nice to a very disturbed man and he had “fallen in love with her” and had to make her his forever. Though, they weren’t sure if this was the actual fact. The man was never caught, and even until this day, there was no trace of him. Amy had given them all of the information that she was able to, by the time she was coherent enough of the world to talk to the police.
Well, maybe not all of the information. And she might have lied about the things that she had told him. The only things that were true were that he was male, and had dark hair. Everything else was a lie. Amy wanted to tell them the truth but she just… Couldn’t. She was emotionally attached to this man and did not want to see him go to jail because of her. He had fled, told her that he was leaving the country before he knocked her out and apparently put her in that alley. She hadn’t seen a trace of him after that so all was fine.
The therapists explained what she was feeling, that she didn’t actually love him, that she was manipulated with the help of drugs. They drilled into her head that he was a dangerous, sick and deranged man who would have killed her if she had not eventually given in to his manipulation. She had struggled against him at first, which had gained her threats of killing her and a few slaps and bruises. The therapists had said that’s what made her mind “break” and convince itself that she loved him, to save herself.
Standing up from the floor, Amy quickly exited the bathroom to get ready for work. She was going to be late, and she had been late because of this type of thing before. Her boss was lenient with her because of what had happened, but not that lenient. If she was late again, she knew she was going to be fired and she needed this job for her rent and her food. So, without eating breakfast, Amy got changed and headed out the door for work.
--
Amy’s boss had kept her late at work again because him and the rest of the employee’s had a late meeting to discuss next month’s publications. Usually she asked him to not let her stay overtime because by the time she got out, it was dark. Though, the other attendant was off sick today and Amy had thought that this would be a good time to get redeemed for being late all of those times. So she sucked it up and stayed, actually getting quite proud of herself for doing so. She felt like this was progress for her condition, and she always got kind of excited, happy, and proud of herself when she did things like that.
Though, when she got out of work it was well past eleven, and midnight was approaching quickly. By the time she had cleaned up everything from the meeting, everyone except for her boss had left. He offered to walk her to her car but she smiled kindly, not wanting to seem too weak, said that it was only in the parking garage across the street and that she would be fine. Nothing had happened to her for 5 years already. She should be fine. He told her to be careful and then she was on her way.
Exiting the building, she looked both ways down the deserted, street lamp lit, street. No one there. Sighing in relief, Tessa clutched onto her purse and looked to the parking garage across the street. “Come on Amy, you’re fine. Nothing’s going to happen.” She encouraged herself before walking across the street and into the 3 floor cement garage.
It was decently well lit in here and there were security guards that Amy had smiled and waved to on her way in. She had made friends with them, also for precautionary measures. She had everything planned out to ensure that she, herself, would feel safe no matter the situation. After looking around a little, she smiled confidently and started walking in the direction of her car. Even though she knew that there was security here, and the garage had lights, it still seemed a little spooky at this time of night. “Just like a horror movie. It would be a good place for a set.” She told herself with a small nod.
When she reached the aisle of where her car was however, she saw a slight shadow near her car. Squinting to see if it was a person, Tessa stopped walking. Was her car being broken into? God, that would be all that she needed right now. Though from this distance, it almost looked like the shadow cast off of the parking garage beside this one. “Come on, you’re too paranoid.” She laughed at herself. So, she continued towards her car. Though when she was about a meter from her car, she noticed a shadow beside the pillar near her car.
Her heart wrenched in fear and she dropped her purse, frozen in fear. Dark hair, male, tall. The scent of his cologne reached her nose, even from this distance. Her ice blue eyes widened and her whole body started shaking, even though she couldn’t really make out who it was. She knew who it was. “Y…. You.” She stuttered, her one foot slowly moving back, getting ready to make a run for it. Before he could give an answer though, Amy pivoted on her one foot and started running. Running in heels was never a good idea though. Before she could get very far, Amy’s heel got caught on a pothole and she went flying to the ground, her face scraping against the pavement. She felt tears welling up in her eyes as she heard footsteps coming towards her quickly.
